Arsenal welcome Coventry City to the Emirates on Friday night for the first fixture of the 2026/27 campaign.

Last season'sPremier League and Championship title winners do battle on the opening night, as Coventry return to the top division for the first time since 2001. Frank Lampard's side face a daunting test against the Gunners, who are 19 matches unbeaten against promoted teams.

Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich

Saturday 22nd August, 7:30pm kick-off (BST)

Borussia Dortmund do battle with Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup on Saturday evening. Bayern secured a domestic double last season in a dominant season for the German giants, who meet the Bundesliga runners-up for the first silverware of the season.

Bayernscored a record-breaking 122 league goals last season and, by some distance, are the Bundesliga benchmark.

Brighton vs Aston Villa

Sunday 22nd August, 2pm kick-off (BST)

After a mid-season wobble last season,Brighton kept faith with Fabian Hurzeler and were rewarded with European qualification. The Seagulls entertain Aston Villa on the opening weekend, another side that had success last season, lifting the Europa League and securing a top-four finish.

Unai Emery's side has been decimated during the summer window, and there will be intrigue as to how Villa cope with those sales. Sunday represents a chance to put down an early marker.

Atlético Madrid vs Villarreal

Sunday 22nd August, 4pm kick-off (BST)

Atletico Madrid and Villarreal meet in an early-season match-up between La Liga's top-four contenders.

The sides finished fourth and third respectively last season, securing Champions League qualification. But while Atletico have invested heavily with exciting signings including Cristian Romero, Alejandro Grimaldo and Lee Kang-in, Villarreal's sole signing has been veteran goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi.

Newcastle United vs Liverpool

Sunday 22nd August, 4:30pm kick-off (BST)

There's a Premier League classic on the opening weekend asNewcastle United host Liverpool. Few rivalries have produced quite the drama as this one has during the Premier League era, with some of the division's greatest games between the two.

Last season's clash at St James' Park was another all-timer, settled by 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha in the 10th minute of stoppage time. Entertainment is rarely in short supply when these teams meet.
