Following the midweek action, it’s time for another edition of our Premier League Team of the Week.
Recalled to the starting side after Nick Pope’s recent struggles, Ramsdale produced a performance that suggests the shirt is now his to lose. Two superb stops from Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee helped 10-man Newcastle to a big win against Manchester United.
Has emerged from the shadows at Bournemouth this season to become a fixture for the Cherries at centre-back. A man-of-the-match performance during the goalless draw with Brighton saw Hill make 11 clearances and win nine of his 11 defensive duels. Immaculate.
James Tarkowski has faced criticism at times this season, but the Everton defender rose to the occasion against Burnley in midweek. A fantastic header opened the scoring as Everton ended their winless run at Hill Dickinson Stadium, while he marshalled the hosts to a clean sheet. European football has become a real possibility.
Brighton might have criticised Arsenal for an ugly win, but the Gunners won’t care one bit. Few epitomise the current Arsenal more than Gabriel, a beast in both boxes and a pivotal presence for Mikel Arteta’s team.
He made eight clearances in the first half alone as the league leaders battled at Brighton, ending with 14 in total, including one off the line. Super solid, despite the absence of William Saliba alongside him.
Appeared to be everywhere during the win over Manchester United, bulldozing around the Magpies’ midfield with his usual mix of energy and power. With Newcastle down to 10 men in the first half, he provided the drive that was so badly needed. His personal battle with Brazil teammate Casemiro was one-sided in ‘Big Joe’s’ favour.
The third of four Brazilians to make our Team of the Week. Andre’s effort sank Liverpool as Wolves upset the champions at Molineux.
It was the first time in Premier League history that the side at the bottom of the table had beaten the champions with a last-minute goal and, fittingly, Andre’s first in 67 appearances in English football. A fine moment for the midfielder, who barely misplaced a pass (95.6%) all evening.
If recent reports are to be believed, Elliot Anderson might be playing at the Etihad next season. He certainly passed an audition this week, with what is becoming a characteristic all-action outing as Nottingham Forest dented Manchester City’s title hopes. His sweet strike from the edge of the area could be a big moment in the relegation battle.
Ruthlessly punished 10-man Spurs as Crystal Palace pulled clear of the relegation places. Sarr won and converted a penalty to cancel out Dominic Solanke’s opener, before racing clear to dink in a second before half-time. The Senegalese’s speed surprised Guglielmo Vicario as he got there first to steer home.
Brought in for Chelsea’s crucial clash at Aston Villa and rewarded for Liam Rosenior’s faith. His directness had Aston Villa worried all evening, while he created six chances – including an unselfish square for Joao Pedro – and completed 100% of his passes (27/27). Much improved.
Pushed forward in support of Igor Jesus and delivered a captain’s performance against Manchester City.
A cheeky backheeled finish brought Forest level against the run of play, for his fifth goal in 10 league games. Happy to take responsibility even when the pressure is on.
Joao Pedro is in red-hot form right now with a first-ever Premier League hat-trick, boosting Chelsea’s Champions League hopes.
It’s eight in eight games for Pedro, and 14 for the season in the Premier League. Liam Rosenior hailed his delightful second as a world-class finish.
