According to The Guardian, the Premier League is expected to reject expanding VAR to second yellow cards and corners next season, following talks with its referees' body, the PGMO.

The stance aligns with PGMO recommendations. By contrast, at this summer's World Cup, from 11 June to 19 July, VAR will be authorised to rule on corners and second yellow cards at FIFA's request.

IFAB has left leagues free to adopt or ignore the new provision.

The league's clubs will make the final decision at their annual general meeting next month.

The PGMO has advised against wider use, fearing reviews for corners and cards could significantly extend match duration, upset broadcasters and increase pressure on officials.
