After Liverpool’s late loss to Wolves at Molineux this week, Arne Slot called it the same old story that summed up their season. According to NY Times, the reigning champions have been beaten five times by goals in the 90th minute or later, a Premier League single-season record.
Across the division, familiar flaws keep resurfacing.
Arsenal’s fear is finishing runners-up again, 22 years after their last title and following three straight second places. Aston Villa’s Old Trafford trips often start well then unravel after a soft first-half concession and sterile passing.
Bournemouth have conceded 13 times after the 75th minute, with set pieces a weakness, while Brighton are prone to early concessions away. Burnley usually concede first, Chelsea’s seven league red cards have proved costly, and Crystal Palace’s 33 goals lag an xG of 45.1.
Everton’s 24 away points contrast with inconsistency at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium. Fulham’s European push keeps flickering, Leeds United chafe at Daniel Farke’s late changes, Manchester City have scored only one second-half league goal since December 27, Manchester United have twice lost to 10 men, and Newcastle have dropped 19 points from winning positions.
Nottingham Forest have let in 13 from set plays, West Ham are joint-worst with 16, and Tottenham are repeatedly punished from long range. Sunderland have only eight away league goals, Brentford dread another Harry Wilson screamer, and for Wolves, defeat has been the season’s stubborn theme.
