Presnel Kimpembe (29), who hasn’t played any football for 18 months, has suffered another injury setback, which looks set to sideline him until after the upcoming international break.
Kimpembe has not played a game since February 2023, when he suffered an ankle injury that required surgery. The Frenchman then returned to first-team training in December 2023 and a return from the ruptured Achilles tendon blow looked to be nearing. However, he did not feel comfortable and chose to undergo further surgery in January.
In the meantime, Kimpembe’s contract was set to expire. Determined not to lose him for free, Les Parisiens extended his deal until 2026. Reading between the lines, the contract length perhaps hinted at a lack of confidence in Kimpembe’s fitness holding.
However, the France international had looked on the verge of a return. That was until a fresh setback. As reported by L’Équipe, the centre-back continues to train seperately after suffering a new muscular injury. The latest injury, unrelated to his achilles tendon issue, will likely see him sidelined until the upcoming international break at the start of September, with PSG not wanting to take any risks.
