Pressure is mounting on Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest after his side went seven games without a win. The Australian took over from the hugely popular Nuno Espírito Santo after Evangelos Marinakis pulled the trigger.
Very quickly, Marinakis moved to appoint former Celtic manager Postecoglou, who was available after leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. The 60-year-old’s stock was high after winning the Europa League, ending Spurs’ trophy drought.
However, after seven games, there is already speculation about Ange’s future with the former European Cup winners. The 3-2 defeat at the City Ground midweek against Midtjylland resulted in Forest fans singing ‘sacked in the morning’ at their own boss.
This led to calls that Marinakis may consider Ange’s position should they failed to beat Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s side ran out 2-0 winners, putting more pressure on the manager.
Ange has been in the job just 26 days, which would set a record for the shortest stint with the record currently 40.
Brian Clough famously had a 44 day stint at Leeds United after replacing Don Revie. The legendary Jock Stein was also in situ at Elland Rd for the same period in 1978 before becoming Scotland manager.
It remains to be seen what happens with Ange. There are certainly a number of Celtic supporters that would take Ange back given his exciting brand of football next season if Brendan doesn’t sign a new deal.
