Preston North End handed major injury blow

Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed Preston North End captain Ali McCann has undergone successful surgery on a hamstring injury.

The Northern Ireland international suffered the problem during North End’s Carabao Cup clash with Everton and is expected to be sidelined for the next few months.

“Ali had his operation on Tuesday and we were all pleased with how that’s gone,” the Preston boss said.

“We got plenty of opinions and made a call to have it operated on, and it gives it less chance of a reoccurring injury whilst not affecting the timeframe that he’ll be out for.

“It’s obviously a blow not to have him for the next few months, but the priority is that he comes back fit and well, so we wish him all the best.”
