Promising forward Jonah Kusi-Asare is being linked with a loan move to Preston North End

Preston North End are in loan talks with 19-year-old Fulham striker Jonah Kusi-Asare, as Paul Heckingbottom strives to bolster the frontline at Deepdale before the transfer deadline.

The Lilywhites are languishing in the Championship relegation zone after three games this season, and are one of two sides — Stoke City being the other — to have lost all their league games so far, which has increased pressure on Heckingbottom.

The main cause for concern has been at the top end of the pitch. North End arguably went into the new campaign weaker up top, after Lewis Dobbin and Daniel Jebbison's loans from last season came to an end, and the threadbare forward line was made even weaker by the sale of Milutin Osmajic to Genoa.

Preston have scored just twice in the Championship thus far, so it's evident where the focus will be placed in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

According to Pete O'Rourke, Preston are holding talks with Fulham starlet Kusi-Asare over a potential loan move to Deepdale ahead of the transfer window closing on Tuesday.

The six-foot-five frontman has already been capped 11 times by the Swedish under-21s side, and, this summer, completed a £5 million move to Craven Cottage from German giants Bayern Munich following a successful loan spell last season.

Kusi-Asare made two senior appearances for Bayern before his switch to West London and went on to play 10 times under Marco Silva last year, seven of which came in the Premier League.

His odd appearances in the PL2 with the under-21s side saw him net four times in five games, so it's evident he's ready for more senior football, and with new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa bringing exciting Real Madrid frontman Gonzalo Garcia to the club this summer, the 19-year-old looks set to spend the 2026/27 campaign elsewhere.

Preston fans know they need at least one, ideally two, new striker additions before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night.

Therefore, the news linking them to someone who was recently on the books at Bayern Munich is much appreciated amongst the supporters at Deepdale.

Online, there were numerous "bring" comments, with another, relieved, commenting, "Now we’re talking."

"6 foot 5 ex Bayern striker? Yes please north end," was also amongst the comments, as was "Yep! Bring! Please!"

It may be a case of 'any striker will do' at Deepdale between now and the end of the transfer window. Indeed, one fan did say that Kusi-Asare was "not exactly the prolific goalscorer we need to sign, but we do need two forward players in."

Even if the 19-year-old is brought in behind a more experienced frontman at the level, such as Cameron Archer, as Alan Nixon is reporting, he'd provide some newfound excitement surrounding the attacking options after a turgid opening to the campaign in front of goal.

Preston won just six of their 22 league outings in 2026 last season, and have extended that to six wins in 25 in the opening three games of this year. It's rather alarming, and there'll be a big onus on a strong end to the transfer window to get things back on track.

The Lilywhites have made nine signings this summer, adding winger Stanley Mills and wing-back Caleb Wiley in the past week, and, arguably, every position but the striker one has been strengthened sufficiently.

Now the focus has to be on the striker. Not only have Preston scored just twice in league action this year, but they've taken the fewest shots on target, too, with just six efforts either testing the goalkeeper or finding the back of the net.

That lack of a clinical frontman was emphasised against Charlton Athletic on Saturday, with just one shot on target from 12 attempts all game. It needs to be better going forward, else Preston could be in some serious danger in the Championship this season.

Kusi-Asare may not be as experienced as some North End fans would want from their striker addition, but Deepdale could be the stage for a breakout campaign for the 19-year-old if given the game time.
