Callum O'Dowda has spoke out on Omer Riza's future at Cardiff City
Callum O'Dowda has urged Vincent Tan to appoint Omer Riza on a permanent basis at Cardiff City following yesterday's thrilling late comeback victory against Norwich City.
By and large, the Bluebirds have been resurgent thus far under Riza, who was named as interim manager following the dismissal of Erol Bulut in September and has done an admirable job since.
Cardiff were rooted to the foot of the Championship without a single victory and an alarming deficit in goal difference when Riza took charge.
The former Watford and Leyton Orient first-team coach lost his first game in the job as Cardiff were put to the sword in a 4-1 defeat at Hull City, but they've now stretched their run of form to six matches on the trot without losing while winning on four consecutive occasions on home soil.
Victories over Millwall, Plymouth Argyle, Portsmouth and Norwich have considerably strengthened Riza's chances of landing the job on a permanent basis, having taken Cardiff up to 17th in the Championship and three points clear of the drop zone.
Supporters are keen to a see a decision sooner rather than later too, and Riza described that constructive talks took place between himself and the Bluebirds hierarchy on Friday, with the top-brass having been in attendance for yesterday's latest win against the Canaries.
Callum O'Dowda, who inspired a stunning late comeback to earn all three points on Saturday afternoon, has revealed that it's "pretty obvious" that the Cardiff squad want to see Riza appointed full-time.
One of many players to have been liberated by Riza's stay to date, O'Dowda made his side's equaliser on the 89th minute by darting down the left-hand side and finding Callum Robinson before rifling home the winner deep into added time as his powerful strike found its way through a crowded penalty area and past Norwich stopper George Long to send the Cardiff City Stadium into raptures.
While speaking to ITV Sport in the wake of the victory over Norwich, O'Dowda offered little secret of the regard in which Riza is held.
"It was a great win. I'll tell you what, I do love a last minute winner as well, I had the same feeling last season (against Ipswich Town)," the 29-year-old explained.
"But I think we've been really good this season since Riza stepped on board. It's pretty obvious what the players want, I'd say for the record.
"Yeah, it would be good to see him take full ownership of us and take us forward, because since I've been here it's the best football I've seen us play."
Riza is still very much auditioning for the permanent Bluebirds gig at the minute, although one would suspect that Vincent Tan and co will surely arrive at a conclusive decision come the International break.
Cardiff are on the crest of a wave, but everybody realises that the situation cannot remain this way forever and Cardiff need to eventually make a call.
Of course, it's becoming increasingly clear that Riza deserves the opportunity to lead this side for the rest of the season at the least after inspiring such a drastic upturn in form in a remarkably short time and liberating the squad with a more fluid and dynamic brand of attacking football.
He has already stood up to some fierce tests against West Brom and Norwich, but Cardiff have impressively come away from those two matches with four points and will rightly fancy their chances in their upcoming matches.
Cardiff are next in action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Kenilworth Road to face a horribly out-of-form Luton Town side, who have won just once in their last seven and are only above the relegation zone on goal difference despite coming down from the Premier League.
After Luton, a return to the Welsh capital will await for next weekend, where the Bluebirds play host to Blackburn Rovers.
Although John Eustace has done a remarkable job by propelling Blackburn up to seventh place at the time of writing, they've lost four of their last six games and are one of just six teams in the Championship yet to win away from home.
With Cardiff having won four on the spin on home soil, three points will surely be the target when Rovers come to town and they should also be fancying their chances at Luton.
