Argentina face Austria at the Dallas Stadium in Texas tomorrow evening in their second Group J match of the FIFA World Cup.
The defending champions head into the clash on the back of a 3-0 win over Algeria on Wednesday evening. Lionel Messi bagged a hat-trick in that one and will be hoping to lead Argentina into the knockouts with a win over Austria to remain top of Group J. Messi is also just one goal away from breaking Miroslave Klose’s record for most goals at the World Cup.
Argentina will be aiming to secure a fourth FIFA World Cup title this Summer, having previously lifted the trophy in 1978, 1986 and 2022. If they finish top of their group, they would be against the runners-up of Group H in Round 32, which would be either Uruguay, Spain, Cape Verde or Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Austria enter the match on the back of a late 3-1 win over Jordan on Wednesday, which saw them rise to second in Group J, as they also look to escape the group. Austria last reached the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup in 1982, and qualification for the Round of 32 this year would mark a fantastic achievement, given their last appearance at the tournament was in 1998. Ralf Ragnick’s side are currently unbeaten in six matches across all competitions, winning five and drawing one.
The two sides have met only twice, with Austria claiming a 1-1 draw in a friendly in 1990 but losing 5-1 in 1980.
The match will kick off at 6pm in the UK and 1pm in the US, and will be shown live on BBC One in the UK, and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer
In America, it will be broadcast live on FOX and Telemundo, with streaming options on Fubo and Peacock.
