Wrexham AFC will travel to Ashton Gate as they take on Bristol City in a massive game in the Sky Bet Championship season, as both sides look to move into a play-off position.
Bristol City have had ten days to recover following their win over Hull City last time out, as their FA Cup 4th Round tie with Port Vale was postponed due to the recent bad weather.
Meanwhile, Wrexham picked up a 1-0 home win over Ipswich Town to secure their spot in the 5th round for the first time since 1997, when they reached the quarter-final.
Following this past weekend’s Championship results, either side can move into the top six with a win, jumping ahead of Preston North End and Derby County. The home side looks to be boosted by the return of tenacious midfielder Max Bird tomorrow night.
The 25-year-old hasn’t played for City since the club’s 3-0 away win over Sheffield Wednesday back in September. New signings Tomi Horvat and Noah Eile may also start following impressive debuts last time out.
There is also potential for Zak Vyner to play at Ashton Gate as an opposition player for the first time, following his recent move to Wrexham. However, the Kenyan has been out injured since late January when he came off in Bristol City’s 2-0 loss to Ipswich at Portman Road.
When these two sides met earlier in the season at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham picked up a 2-0 win courtesy of a Nathan Broadhead opener and an unfortunate Radek Vitek own goal from a corner.
Tomorrow’s host usually gets the better of this fixture, though, winning 15 of the 30 meetings so far. Wrexham’s last win at Ashton Gate came in 1981, and they have lost five of their six visits.
Ruebyn Ricardo was the referee in North Wales when these two last met, controversially ruling out an equaliser for Bristol City towards the end of the first half.
He’ll be the man in the middle again tomorrow evening, and I’m sure many Robins fans will be hoping for a less eventful performance from him this time around.
Wrexham have been on a spectacular rise over the last half-decade, winning three promotions in the last three seasons, and hunting a fourth one this season. Phil Parkinson remains at the helm as he looks to guide The Red Dragons to England’s top flight for the first time in their history.
The centre-forwards will likely be the difference makers in this clash, with Keiffer Moore and Emil Riis Jakobsen looking to add to their respective tallies for the campaign. Both players have been consistent goal scorers at this level for years now, and that’s not been any different so far this term.
The match will take place at Ashton Gate on Tuesday, February 17th, kick-off is scheduled for 7:45pm (UK time)
