Preview: Bundesliga kick-off in Berlin | OneFootball

The 2026/27 Bundesliga season is just around the corner, with Eintracht beginning their league campaign away to 1. FC Union Berlin.

The backdrop

The Eagles won their first competitive fixture of 2026/27 11-0 at fifth-tier side SC St. Tönis to cruise into the second round of the DFB-Pokal. “We did our job really well,” said Can Uzun afterwards, before turning his attention to Union Berlin: “That’s what we’re focusing on fully now. We’re going to Berlin with plenty of excitement and confidence.” 

Head coach Adi Hütter’s men will play their first Bundesliga game of the new season at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST). 

Eintracht are heading into their 58th top-flight campaign, having finished the last one in eighth place on 44 points. Union, meanwhile, ended 2025/26 in 11th spot with 39 points. 

Looking back

Eintracht have done well in their recent trips to the German capital, earning two 1-1 draws and a 3-0 win across the last three seasons – the latter coming in November 2023. It should be noted, however, that that victory was also the last time the Eagles got the better of Union, whether at home or away. Overall, there have been five wins apiece and four draws between the teams in the Bundesliga. 

Both teams will be starting the new season under new coaches: Hütter is in charge of Eintracht and Swiss tactician Mauro Lustrinelli is now in the Union hotseat.
