Coventry City reinforced a stellar 3-1 home victory against title-rivals Middlesbrough with a 2-0 triumph away at a languishing West Bromwich Albion, where the Sky Blues had not tasted victory since 2007.
Prior to breaking the Hawthorns hoodoo, Frank Lampard’s side were winless on the road since late November.
This means the side eyeing a first return to the Premier League since 2001 will travel north, bursting with confidence, bolstering a full squad having escaped their last encounter unscathed.
Ephron Mason-Clark, who scored his 7th goal of the season against the Baggies, was substituted after a heavy tackle, and Haji Wright was also replaced, having sustained a cut to his leg.
However, speaking to Coventry Live, head coach Lampard insists his frontmen are not seriously injured and will be ready to go again for what he expects to be another physical encounter.
The Sky Blues came away with all three points when the Blades visited the Coventry Building Society Arena back in November, and City supporters will be hoping that recent loan addition Frank Onyeka continues his inspired form to ensure a similar outcome.
Sheffield United will be aiming to put a dent in Coventry’s title pursuits, however, as they too chase their third league win on the bounce.
Chris Wilder’s side claimed all three points away at Portsmouth before compounding their steel city rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, to the earliest relegation in English Football League history, running out 2-1 winners at a heated Bramhall Lane.
Sunday’s feisty affair saw loan man Kalvin Phillips see red after his studs connected with Svante Ingelsson’s knee, meaning he will miss Wednesday night’s fixture.
The hosts remain without the services of Joe Rothwell, who is also suspended, as well as Sam McCallum, Jairo Reidewald and Tom Davies, who are all sidelined through injury.
The Blades, who once worried about being dragged into a relegation scrap, have experienced a steady upturn in form, leaving them just six points behind sixth-placed Wrexham before Tuesday’s Championship fixtures.
This revival has coincided with the arrival of experienced striker Patrick Bamford, whom the Sky Blues turned down before eventually linking up with Chris Wilder.
The one-time England international netted within two minutes against Sheffield Wednesday, making it eight league goals since his initial short-term arrival in November. He will be hoping to fire his side to a sixth win out of Coventry’s last eight visits to South Yorkshire.
Action gets underway at Bramhall Lane at 19:45 GMT on Wednesday, 25 February and is available to watch on Sky Sports.
