Manchester City and Real Madrid will meet at the Joie Stadium this evening in matchday two of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Both sides come into the second round of the competition with a single point, after each team settled for a draw in their opening fixtures. Bayern Munich led Manchester City 2-0 before the Women’s Super League champions fought back to salvage a point. Meanwhile, a goal from 19-year-old Felicia Schröder in the opening minutes of Real Madrid’s match wouldn’t be enough as PSG found a late equaliser.

Manchester City have had a strong start to their WSL campaign, winning all four matches in their best start since 2019/20, and finding their place at the top of the table. City’s latest result came against newly promoted Charlton Athletic, with the only goal coming in the first half, a free-kick courtesy of Alex Greenwood, keeping the champions’ perfect record intact.

Over in Liga F, Real Madrid sit second in the table having won four out of five of their matches so far, though having to settle for a single point in their goalless clash against Eibar earlier in the season. Last time out in the league, Las Blancas were a part of an eight-goal thriller in their 3-5 victory over Real Sociedad, with goals from Lineth Beerensteyn, Eva Navarro, and Schröder.

Tomorrow will be the second time the sides face each other, with their last meeting in the UWCL taking place in 2022, when Real Madrid won 0-1 at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, with an early goal from Caroline Weir setting the scoreline for the rest of the clash.

Summer Signings Carlotta Wamser and Beth Mead made their mark during the UCWL clash against Bayern Munich, with former Arsenal forward Mead making a seamless transition into life in the North West, scoring just before half-time to drag the English side back into the contest. Wamser went on to secure the equaliser in the closing minutes of the match, whipping an effort in at the near post to rescue a draw.

Real Madrid also strengthened their side over the summer, with Schröder making the move from BK Häken in a record transfer, scoring five and assisting once in the league so far, as well as scoring in the opening minutes of their aforementioned clash against PSG. Other summer signings for the club include Beerensteyn, Janou Levels, Arianna Caruso, Andrea Jacinto, and Elisa Senß.

The game is scheduled for an 8 pm kick-off BST this evening and will be broadcast live on Disney+.
