Portsmouth welcome Stoke City to Fratton Park this Saturday for Matchweek 12 of the EFL Championship, with kick-off at 12:30 live on Sky Sports+.
Pompey sit 17th in the table with 13 points and will be looking to respond after a 2-1 defeat to Coventry City last time out. Stoke, meanwhile, are up in 6th on 18 points, though they also slipped up in their previous outing - a 2-0 loss to Millwall.
The sides last met in a 3-1 win for Portsmouth, and both will be keen to put things right after disappointing results midweek.
Freddie Webb (Pompey News Now / PO4cast): Different styles of play will be showcased when Stoke City visit Fratton Park. With Pompey having to change from an aggressive high-pressing shape due to injuries and a lack of pace up front, John Mousinho’s men will be looking to control the game in the midfield.
The Potters on the other hand have changed beyond recognition. Gone are the days where they were plagued by a lack of strength and effort, Mark Robins believes has transformed the team.
Based on a strong back-four including Aaron Cresswell, they possess pace and power up front with Sorba Thomas and Million Manhoef. Their back-four will see several changes due to injuries and suspensions, but the Blues will have players missing as well.
They’ll have to cope with John Swift being suspended, and hope that Josh Murphy can make the bench. With both teams being low scoring, it could be a game defined
Prediction: 1-1
Angela Smith (@knotfm): Stoke City tasted defeat in midweek losing 2-0 at Millwall which ended a four match unbeaten run.
Lunchtime kick offs don't auger well for Stoke. The last away win at lunchtime was during Covid when manager Michael O'Neil was unable to attend due to having the illness.
Maksym Talovierov has had to wait for his first league start since joining from Plymouth which will probably be in this game.
Porstmouth have dominated Stoke at home, winning five of six games, losing once.
It has to change sometime, but I expect a draw.
