World Cup co-hosts the USA will aim to make it three wins from three against already-eliminated Turkey at Inglewood, California’s SoFi Stadium in Group D tomorrow morning.

The Americans have already qualified thanks to wins over Paraguay and Australia, both of whom could still sneak through as one of the best third-placed teams, and will want to make a statement by completing their group campaign in the best possible way.

Concerns were raised about the form of Mauricio Pochettino’s side after they suffered friendly defeats against Belgium, Portugal and Germany and only narrowly beat Senegal in their final pre-tournament warm-up game.

But the Stars and Stripes have answered such criticisms emphatically, totting up a +5 goal difference to go alongside their perfect winning record.

Much of that is due to Folarin Balogun’s opening week brace against Paraguay, but with qualification to the last 32 now sealed Haji Wright may instead be given the chance to show what he can do on football’s grandest stage.

One-time Dortmund wonderkid Giovanni Reyna could also start after finding the net against Paraguay, while Sebastian Berhalter may be given a runout in place of Weston Mckennie, Tyler Adams or Malik Tillman. Seattle Sounders’ Cristian Roldan, however, risks missing out with a muscle strain.

Turkey, by contrast, have put up a disappointing showing in North America at their first World Cup since finishing third in 2002. Having been tipped to escape a seemingly easy group alongside the USA, Vincenzo Montella’s men are instead guaranteed to finish bottom following shock defeats against the Socceroos and La Albirroja, where they had 62 shots at goal without scoring.

But regardless of their previous poor displays Ay-Yıldızlılar will be determined to show the world they can compete at this level, and with the pressure now off may just be capable of spoiling the USA’s great American bash.

Highly rated youngsters Arda Güler and Kenan Yıldız, of Real Madrid and Juventus respectively, are the crux of Bizim Çocuklar’s attacking threat and will expect to be given the chance to build on promising performances in their opening two World Cup matches.

Fellow 21-year-old Denis Gül will hope to be given a proper chance after a pair of substitute displays, especially with Yunus Akgün ruled out with a hernia, while Hakan Çalhanoğlu will be keen to impress after finally making it to the World Cup at the ripe old age of 32.

Ozan Kabak, meanwhile, could be in line for his World Cup debut having been an unused substitute in his nation’s opening two matches.

And the Turks will be further heartened by their head to head record against the Stars and Stripes, having won two and drawn one of their previous five encounters including the most recent clash last June.

Turkey vs the USA kicks off tomorrow (26 June) at 3am. Coverage is available on ITV, ITVX, as well as STV, RTE2 and RTE Player for viewers in Scotland and the Republic of Ireland respectively.
