Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store has reaffirmed his Leeds United allegiance as his country prepare to meet Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions in Saturday night’s World Cup quarter-final, a 10pm kick-off in Miami.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Store is a Whites supporter, a point emphasised during a meeting last year with former prime minister Keir Starmer to discuss closer UK-Norway ties and co-operation on national and economic security for British people.

At that meeting he noted the welcome given to British troops training in Norway’s winter conditions, then added that Starmer had congratulated him because Leeds returned to the Premier League at the first attempt. Starmer responded by repeating his congratulations on promotion.

Store has also showcased his backing on Instagram, including a picture of himself standing before five Leeds flags on a house wall in Norway.

Norway star Erling Haaland’s affection for Leeds is well known, and the club retains a large following across Norway and Scandinavia, rooted in Don Revie’s glory years.

The intertwining of politics, players and fandom underscores the strength of the Leeds-Norway bond.
