Michał Probierz was named as coach of Poland’s U21 team on Monday morning. The 49-year-old takes the helm, replacing Maciej Stolarczyk, who left the position three weeks ago to take up the vacant role at Jagiellonia Białystok.

Two-time Jagiellonia boss Probierz has been without a job since 8 January, when he left bottom-of-the-table Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza only TWO DAYS after signing to take charge of the club. Prior to that, he spent four years in charge of Cracovia. In his seventeen-year coaching career, he has also led Polonia Bytom (twice), both ŁKS and Widzew Łódź, Lechia Gdańsk, GKS Bełchatów, Wisła Kraków and Aris Thessaloniki.

Probierz won both the Puchar Polski and Superpuchar Polski with Jagiellonia and Cracovia, and was named ‘Coach of the Year’ whilst at Jaga. He was also voted the club’s all-time greatest coach in 2010.

As a player, Probierz was also a hard-working midfielder, playing for Ruch Chorzów, Górnik Zabrze, and German clubs Bayer Uerdingen and SG Wattenscheid 09.

Probierz takes charge of the U21 side which failed to qualify for next summer’s European Championships, behind Germany and Israel.
