In a significant move that could reshape their attacking options, Motsepe Foundation Championship leaders Casric Stars are on the verge of securing a notable acquisition: former Mamelodi Sundowns winger Promise Mkhuma. The 25-year-old, whose career began with considerable promise under the guidance of Pitso Mosimane when he debuted for Sundowns in 2020, is now training with the club ahead of a potential deal.

Mkhuma’s journey since his early days at Chloorkop has been one of steady movement and searching for consistency. After his initial breakthrough, he was sent on loan to Moroka Swallows FC, though his stay was brief. A return to Sundowns was quickly followed by further loan spells—first to Cape Town All Stars and later to the University of Pretoria—as he sought regular game time and form.

His release by Sundowns in July 2024 presented a fresh start, and Upington City acted swiftly to bring him into their fold. Yet, after just a single season with “Bafana Ba Gucci,” Mkhuma found himself once again seeking a new home.

Now, as he trains alongside the Casric Stars squad, there is growing belief that this latest chapter could offer the stability and platform the talented wide man needs. For their part, Stars have opened the new season in impressive fashion, winning both of their matches to sit atop the league table with a perfect six points—two clear of Clinton Larsen’s Venda Football Academy. The potential addition of Mkhuma could further strengthen their bid for a memorable campaign.
