They may only have two of the 64 teams involved publicly on board with the project, but the Superleague have reportedly set a date for the beginning of the competition. Earlier this week, Spanish Courts backed up the European Court of Justice in ruling that sanctions for joining the project would go against fair market competition rules.
According to Cadena Cope, the proposed date for the beginning of the project would be September of 2025, when the Champions League for the 2025-26 season is also due to begin. So far only Real Madrid and Barcelona remain publicly interested in the competition, although organising company A22 claim that many more are.
There has been no talk of collaboration with other competitions on scheduling dates, nor with FIFA, which suggests that it is a highly ambitious target. With the Champions League changing format to favour less upsets and adding four more teams into the competition, as well as increasing the number of games, the incentives for the Superleague are less attractive than they were previously.
