Prosecutors probe Duilio's Corinthians tenure after Andrés claims

After denouncing former president Andrés Sanchez for the irregular use of the corporate card last Wednesday (15), the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-SP) is now investigating R$80,000 in suspicious expenses during the administration of former president Duílio Monteiro Alves (January 2021 to December 2023), signed by the executive's personal driver, Denilson Grilo, known as Carioca.

Recently, Duílio Monteiro Alves' defense filed a request for a preliminary injunction in habeas corpus to suspend the Public Prosecutor's investigations, claiming that the accusations are based on documents of "dubious origin," which would constitute "unlawful constraint." The request, however, was denied by the São Paulo Court of Justice.

In a press conference at the Barra Funda Forum on Wednesday morning (15), prosecutor Cássio Conserino detailed the next steps of the investigations into the use of Corinthians' cards between January 2018 and May 2025, involving the administrations of Andrés Sanchez, Duílio Monteiro Alves, and Augusto Melo.

Conserino also informed that Denilson Grilo, "Carioca," Duílio's personal driver during his presidency at Corinthians, will be heard in a deposition next Thursday (23).

“Regarding Duílio, I will now focus on his credit card statements. There wasn’t enough time, it’s just me and another employee. It’s hard for us to coordinate everything. So, what was the criterion for action? Starting with the oldest facts, I took 2018. Now I will continue. So, I don’t have much here.”

“We are responding to some habeas corpus requests, including one requested by former president Duílio Monteiro Alves. I have already responded, and now it is in the stage of the General Prosecutor's Office's statement. Next, I will hear Denilson Grilo on October 23 and will now focus on the statements of former president Duílio. I will focus on that,” he said.

Since August, Corinthians has been under investigation by the MP-SP, which is looking into irregularities in the administrations of former presidents Andrés Sanchez (2018–2020), Duílio Monteiro Alves (2021–2023), and Augusto Melo (January 2024 to May 2025) at Parque São Jorge.

Initially, only Andrés and Duílio were being investigated, but later Augusto Melo's administration was also included. The MP-SP even recommended the removal of all three from all club bodies until the end of the investigations, to prevent them from exerting any influence over internal procedures.

Andrés Sanchez and Duílio Monteiro Alves are lifetime counselors at Corinthians and ex officio members of the Guidance Council (Cori). Augusto Melo, removed from the presidency after a year and a half, lost his political rights and no longer holds any positions at the club. After the MP-SP's complaint, Andrés requested his removal from the councils.
