Barcelona striker Ferran Torres has ruffled quite a few feathers with his interview regarding his future.

The talented forward has been linked with interest from French giants PSG, with Luis Enrique keen to reunite with a player he has previously coached in his career.

When asked about the European champions’ interest in him, Ferran admitted that he was flattered and reiterated that Barça had to show that they wanted to keep him.

The Catalan club are yet to enter contract renewal talks with Ferran and are waiting until September to do so after the transfer window shuts.

However, going by the Spaniard’s words, which the club are not happy about, they will have to act soon if they wish to keep him beyond 2027.

PSG links remain at an early stage

Now, according to Abdellah Boulma, there is currently no agreement between PSG and Ferran, no contact between the French club and Barcelona, and no formal offer on the table.

The Catalan club have also not communicated a definitive position to the 26-year-old regarding a contract renewal or a sale this summer.

As things stand, there is no club-to-club dialogue, and it does look like PSG’s interest in the Spanish forward is still in the preliminary stages.

Barça should try to provide clarity quickly

After Ferran openly admitted in the media that he is looking for clarity from Barcelona, the last thing Deco and company can do is dwell on this.

The Blaugrana now need to act quickly and decisively to see whether they are willing to try to renew Ferran’s contract or accept a sale this transfer window.

Hansi Flick’s squad are already one striker light since the exit of Robert Lewandowski, and losing the Spaniard in the same window could be catastrophic from a sporting perspective.

The last thing the German manager will want is completely new faces leading the line for his team and no trusted option to call upon.

Direct conversation is the need of the hour

At this stage, there is still no need for panic, and Barça need to hold a direct conversation with Ferran once he returns to first-team training.

The club must establish whether he genuinely wants to stay, what role Flick sees for him and whether the financial conditions of a renewal are realistic.

Ferran, for his part, needs to be clear with the club on what his plans for the future are and whether he desires to continue in Flick’s project.

Barça have quickly gone from trying to sign a new striker this summer to struggling to keep the only one left in the squad.

The sooner this issue is resolved, the better it is for the Catalan club, and it remains to be seen how Ferran’s future plays out.
