FC Bayern travel to Paris with a broad chest and have received plenty of praise from their opponents ahead of the Champions League semi-final first leg. PSG coach Luis Enrique has heaped praise on the German record champions, highlighting Munich’s style of play in particular

„Vincent Kompany is a top-level coach, he’s already shown that in England. We’ve seen how difficult it is against them. They’re one of my favourite teams to watch,“ explained the Spaniard at the press conference ahead of the clash. Enrique was particularly impressed by Bayern’s attacking approach: „They always attack, score an incredible number of goals. It’s great fun to watch a team like that.“

The statements underline the enormous esteem in which FC Bayern has been held throughout Europe under Kompany, while Enrique also makes it clear that his team is well prepared

Enrique emphasizes Bayern as a cohesive collective

What is particularly interesting is that the PSG coach does not focus on individual players, but emphasizes the strength of the entire team. When asked about Michael Olise, Enrique replied: „I like all the Bayern players, not just Michael Olise, all of them. They have shown their level.“

The 55-year-old also refrained from clearly defining the „soul“ of Bayern’s game and instead listed numerous key players: „Kimmich, Harry Kane, Musiala, Olise, Luis Díaz, Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Neuer, Stanisic – everyone, all of them, the whole team.“

For Enrique, this is precisely the crucial point: „Yes, they have stars, but the key is always the team.“ In saying this, he gets to the heart of the current Bayern team, which is characterized by a clear structure and team unity under Kompany

Despite their respect for their opponents, PSG go into the clash with plenty of confidence. Enrique expects an „attractive game for everyone“ and emphasized: „We’re in really good form.“

At the same time, the Spaniard is aware of the importance of details at this level: „In these games, it’s the small details that count, we have to be prepared for every scenario. But we are confident. At the same time, we know that we are facing a difficult task.“

Enrique sees the fact that PSG can line up with almost their full squad as an additional advantage: „That’s the magic of the Champions League, everyone wants to be there, it gives you a special energy,“ he explained

Offensive star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was also confident and made a clear statement to FC Bayern: „It will be a difficult game, Bayern are in good form, but we are PSG. We are capable of anything and can beat anyone.“

At the same time, the Georgian paid great respect to Bayern captain Manuel Neuer: „I think he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He’s a legend,“ said Kvaratskhelia

The recent past nevertheless speaks in favour of Munich: FC Bayern have won all of their last five Champions League encounters, with a clear goal difference of 7:1. The best conditions for a real top match – in which both teams are on an equal footing and nuances are likely to make the difference.
