After nearly leaving the club a year ago, Eric Garcia has become an ‘untouchable’ for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona and is viewed as a key part of the club’s present and future.
The 24-year-old homegrown star’s versatility makes him valuable as he can fill in as a right-back, centre-back, and even as a defensive midfielder.
Garcia’s current contract expires in June 2026, prompting interest from reigning French and European champions Paris Saint-Germain. But Barcelona are negotiating a renewal so as to secure his future at the club.
In a positive development, Mundo Deportivo reports that PSG have cooled their interest in Garcia, with Barcelona understood to be making progress in talks over his contract extension.
Both parties are working on an extension of four or five years. The Spanish international favours reducing the length of the extension rather than adding an optional extra year, but he has made it clear that his priority is to remain at the Spotify Camp Nou.

PSG, coached by Luis Enrique, had shown a strong interest in Garcia. The Parisian club had considered launching an offensive in the winter window and, if no agreement was reached for a January transfer, offering a pre-contract to secure him for June.
Barcelona recognised the urgency of closing his renewal and intensified negotiations, with PSG’s interest in Garcia now understood to have cooled down.
The good relationship between the two parties has discouraged other clubs from making formal approaches.
Talks are progressing, but no official announcement is expected in the immediate future. As per the update, the aim is to reach a final agreement before the end of the year.
