Paris Saint-Germain chase a second piece of silverware this season when they face Lens in the Trophée des champions at Bollaert on Sunday at 20:45. According to Le Progres, Lens have undergone major changes since the end of last season.
PSG beat Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg on Wednesday to win the UEFA Super Cup, less than a week after most of their World Cup players returned. Luis Enrique’s side now seek to extend that momentum on the domestic stage.
Enrique said the trophy matters and that they will try to win it again, while accepting fitness and sharpness are not yet at usual levels. He called a trip to Lens one of the hardest away games in France, and felt their cup triumph was deserved.
Wednesday’s win came with several players short of peak after holidays that ended less than a month after the World Cup. The coach will again manage minutes carefully to avoid early injuries.
He could also turn to new signing Ferran Torres, a scorer in the World Cup final, who joined from Barcelona on Saturday for €45 million on a five-year deal and has already trained.
Despite many departures this summer, Lens could be without striker Odsonne Édouard, but will have France international Robin Risser in goal and can call on new captain Florian Thauvin. Thauvin acknowledged PSG are favourites, adding that Lens will play their way and give everything under Dino Toppmöller.
