Over the past few months, Barcelona defender Eric Garcia has become an increasingly important figure for Hansi Flick, thanks largely to his versatility. The 24-year-old Spaniard can operate as a center-back, fullback, and even as a defensive midfielder, making him a key player for both the present squad and the club’s future plans.

Garcia’s current contract runs until the end of this season, but progress is being made on a renewal. According to Mundo Deportivo, both the player and Barcelona are actively working toward an agreement, with the club aiming to finalize the extension before the end of the year.

The renewal is reportedly expected to span four to five seasons, although Garcia himself would prefer a shorter term to maintain flexibility.

The defender’s desire to remain at the club is clear. He has expressed that his priority is to continue playing at Camp Nou, which also aligns with his ambition of maximizing his chances of representing Spain at the 2026 World Cup.

His commitment has reportedly discouraged other clubs from making serious moves, including Paris Saint-Germain. The French side had previously considered signing him in the winter or arranging a pre-contract for the summer, but interest has now cooled.

FC Barcelona are keen to conclude the renewal swiftly. The report from MD indicates that if the deal is delayed beyond this year, the risk of other clubs stepping in could increase. While negotiations are advancing, no official announcement is expected immediately, and Garcia remains focused on his development and contribution at Barcelona.
