Tuesday night’s encounter between Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool would not have been pleasant viewing for France manager Didier Deschamps. The France manager saw Hugo Ekitiké stretchered off in the first half, and L’Équipe understands that, not only will the Liverpool forward miss this summer’s FIFA World Cup, but he will also potentially be out for nine months with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

He wasn’t the only Frenchman to go off injured as PSG advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League at Liverpool’s expense (2-0, [agg. 4-0]). Désiré Doué also came off injured. Following a push from Dominik Szoboszlai, Doué made contact with the advertising boards at the side of the pitch. He attempted to play on but came off in the 53rd minute, replaced by the returning Bradley Barcola.

However, post-match, Luis Enrique provided a positive update on Doué, as well as Nuno Mendes, who was forced off in the first half. “It’s nothing serious, but I’m not a doctor,” the PSG manager told Canal Plus. “With this intensity in this kind of match, it is normal to have problems. We’ll see exactly what it is they’ve picked up.”
