PSG-Monaco | Trophée des Champions postponed

L’Équipe understands that the Trophée des Champions, between Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco, which was set to take place in Beijing in August, has been postponed.

The Trophée des Champions, for now a one-off game, held before the start of the Ligue 1 campaign, pits the previous winner of France’s top flight against the winner of the Coupe de France. Should a club complete a domestic double, as PSG did this year, they face the second-place team in Ligue 1, in this instance, Monaco.

This year’s edition of the Trophée des Champions was set to take place in Beijing on 8th August, but no longer. Holding the game in the city was part of a celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between France and China, and whilst the event had strong governmental support, an agreement with Chinese administrative bodies was not found. That is despite a broadcaster and a promoter for the event being found, and despite the LFP having already made the trip to Beijing to begin preparations.

The LFP will now have to set another date for the match. It looks highly unlikely that it will be in China in any case. Last year’s edition was also postponed, ultimately taking place on 3rd January 2024 at PSG’s home ground, the Parc des Princes. Les Parisiens won that encounter, beating Toulouse FC 2-0.
