PSG have doubled down on a clear recruitment plan built around elite French talent, making that priority evident over recent transfer windows. The additions of Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, and Lucas Chevalier underline that long-term approach.
That strategy remains in place as PSG look to upgrade the back line. Liverpool center back Ibrahima Konaté has been floated as a potential option, though the club are also evaluating another high-profile defender.
Bayern Munich standout Dayot Upamecano has emerged as someone firmly on PSG’s radar. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club are closely monitoring the situation as his contract runs through the 2025-26 season.
Romano added that if Upamecano chooses not to extend with Bayern, an opportunity could present itself in the summer of 2026, when the defender would be available on a free transfer.

According to a report from Sport Bild (h/t Le10Sport), Bayern Munich and Upamecano have reached an agreement in principle.
The deal includes the defender’s base salary, performance-related bonuses, and a signing bonus, with the remaining point of discussion focused on the release clause in the proposed contract.
Bayern Munich want that clause to become active in the second year of the deal, starting in 2028, while Upamecano would prefer it to take effect earlier. Even so, an extension is considered very likely, which would all but end PSG’s hopes in this case.
BBC Sport previously reported that Upamecano, long monitored by Real Madrid, was also drawing attention from England. Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea have each been mentioned as possible suitors for him.
