Manchester United beat out clubs like Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid for former LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro. The Red Devils reportedly paid €62 million plus €8 million for the teenager, but he suffered a foot injury during the club’s summer tour in the United States.
L’Equipe’s Loïc Tanzi recently reported that PSG was aware of Yoro’s health issues. The French media outlet noted that PSG has stated that they were aware of Yoro’s physical vulnerabilities.
As a result, the Parisians chose not to match or come close to the amount Manchester United paid for him. Former French footballer Emmanuel Petit does believe the information that L’Equipe reported that PSG did have concerns over a potential injury which stopped them from going any further.
“He had a great season last season with Lille,” Petit said (h/t DAZN). “He played something like 45 games in his first season, which is remarkable for a young player. A lot of big clubs were looking at him, including PSG and Real Madrid.
“I can see why Madrid were interested because in France he is known as the new Varane. PSG were really, really interested, but they would only spend 70 million euros on him if there were guarantees with his fitness and physicality.
“In the end, they were concerned about his physicality, which is why they walked away from the deal. Now, after he got injured for Manchester United in pre-season, we can see why PSG were concerned.”
PSG have finally secured their center-back this summer as the reigning Ligue 1 champions announced the arrival of Ecuadorian defender Willian Pacho this week to help bolster the defense.
