In just a few weeks, Kylian Mbappé will be making his move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid. But before heading to Santiago Bernabéu, the French star had one last game with PSG.
PSG secured a 2-1 victory over Olympique Lyonnais in the Coupe de France Final at the Stade Pierre Mauroy on Saturday night. Although the 25-year-old didn’t score to create a storybook ending, he did get to lift one final trophy with the team.
The goals that secured PSG’s 15th Coupe de France trophy were scored by Ousmane Dembélé and Fabián Ruiz. Mbappé spoke with beIN Sports postgame and the forward sidestepped the question regarding where he’ll be playing next season.
“First, I’m heading to [UEFA Euro 2024], which is really important for us,” Mbappé told the outlet (h/t Paris Fans). “I don’t want to waste my last moments here. I want to enjoy them and focus solely on that.”
Mbappé’s soon-to-be former teammates gave him a heartfelt send-off as he starts a new chapter in Madrid. It’s a bittersweet moment, but it’s time for both sides to move on this summer. For PSG, this marks the beginning of a new era without the kind of superstar they’ve been used to having.
