PSG and Arsenal meet in the UEFA Champions League final this evening with club football’s biggest prize at stakes.
For Paris Saint-Germain, it’s a second straight final as Luis Enrique’s team bid to defend their Champions League crown won last season. The French champions blitzed Inter Milan 5-0 last season in a record-breaking final scoreline.
PSG will start as favourites, but face an Arsenal team in confident mood. The North London side were crowned as Premier League champions earlier this month, ending a 22-year wait for a league title.
Arsenal are into their first Champions League final since 2006 and aiming to become European champions for the first time. Europe’s top prize has eluded the Gunners, who lost 2-1 to Barcelona in their only previous final appearance.
The teams are evenly matched when it comes to past meetings. Of the seven previous encounters across all competitions, PSG and Arsenal have claimed two wins each, with three draws. However, PSG have won each of the last two meetings after winning both legs of last season’s Champions League semi-final tie.
Arsenal can take encouragement from history. The North Londoners beat PSG on route to their last European trophy, beating the French side in the 1993/94 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup semi-finals.
