Paris Saint-Germain win the Super Cup for a second successive season after beating a spirited Aston Villa 2-1 in Austria to confirm their status as champions of Europe.
Luis Enrique’s side controlled the opening stage of the game with Villa holding firm and looking to counter attack through exciting teenagers Brian Madjo and George Hemmings. The opening goal was scored by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who cut in from the left and slotted past the Villa goalkeper to confirm PSG’s dominance.
But, Villa responded on the stroke of half-time through John McGinn picking out Madjo in the box and the forward volleying home.
Yet, there was another twist to come as Desire Doue broke through the lines to collect a loose ball before driving in to the box and curling in the winner. His goal was initially ruled out for offside before a VAR check showed Matty Cash was playing him on and the decisive blow was struck.
