Achraf Hakimi has avoided an ankle fracture, but the Morocco international could still be out for around two months, meaning that his participation in January’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) could be called into question.

Hakimi came off the pitch in tears on Tuesday night. The Paris Saint-Germain defender was the victim of a scissor tackle from Luís Diaz. The Bayern Munich forward was shown a red card for the tackle, however, 2-0 up at the time, the Bundesliga side held on to inflict PSG’s first defeat of the UEFA Champions League campaign (1-2).

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins has now provided an update on the ankle injury sustained by Hakimi. He reports that the defender has avoided a fracture. However, it is a severe sprain, and the internal ligaments have been affected.

It is estimated that he will miss between six and eight weeks of action. He may, therefore, not play again for PSG until the winter break, whilst time is also of the essence for him to be fit for the upcoming AFCON.
