PSG midfield prodigy João Neves (20) put in a remarkable performance during Les Parisiens‘ 6-3 rout of Toulouse. After two unconvincing, slender 1-0 wins against Nantes and Angers, Luis Enrique’s PSG delivered the goods in full at Toulouse’s Stadium Municipal, and the former SL Benfica Academy graduate took centre stage.
Neves opened the scoring with a close-range bicycle kick only seven minutes in. Seven minutes later, Neves made it 3-0 – as Bradley Barcola doubled his side’s lead – with another stunning bicycle kick. The 20-year-old completed his hat-trick in the second half with a long-range screamer up Guillaume Restes’ top left corner.
L’Equipe has lauded Neves’ hat-trick’s “absolute beauty” and awarded the Portuguese a very rare perfect ’10’ rating. A year after his €60m transfer to France, Neves went from strength to strength and confirmed his potential as one of the best young midfielders in the world.
Neves becomes just the 18th player to be awarded a perfect ’10’ from the renowned French publication. It is a feat previously achieved by Donovan Léon, Ademola Lookman, Erling Haaland (twice), Dominik Livakovic, Alban Lafont, Kylian Mbappé, Serge Gnabry, Lucas Moura, Dusan Tadic, Neymar Jr., Carlos Eduardo, Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi (twice), Lars Windfeld, Oleg Salenko, Bruno Martini, and Franck Sauzée.
