PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier (24) is at serious risk of losing out on a spot in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad for France, according to L’EquipeThe former Lille goalkeeper is no longer the undisputed starter between the PSG sticks for a while now. But his playing time with the Champions League winners has drastically decreased recently with Matvey Safonov having featured for every PSG games since February 1st.

PSG head coach Luis Enrique rotated his side for Saturday’s Ligue 1 game against bottom-placed Metz (3-0), but once again, Chevalier was overlooked with Safonov given the nod. L’Equipe understands that Chevalier’s situation has sent alarm bells ringing within France’s coaching set-up.

The outlet adds that, if Chevalier does not swing the situation in his favour, he has very little chance of being called up for France’s international break in March, when Les Bleus will fly out to the USA. It’s also unlikely Deschamps calls up an out-of-rythm goalkeeper whose confidence has taken a hit for what would be his final tournament as France’s manager. This could explain why France’s goalkeeping coach Franck Raviot has elected to monitor Como’s Jean Butez and Lens’ Robin Risser, who have never been called up yet by Deschamps.
