Florian Plettenberg reports that PSV Eindhoven have submitted a €9m offer for Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Ko Itakura. The Bundesliga professional’s much more expensive release clause in his current Gladbach contract recently expired, and PSV are now revamping their interest in an effort to acquire the Japanese international for a smaller sum.
The Dutch champions have targeted two Bundesliga players thus far this summer, in each case ultimately getting their man. Bayer Leverkusen keeper Matej Kovar moved to the Rood-Witten on a complex loan deal that should enable PSV to complete a permanent capture. PSV also succeeded in acquiring Freiburg right back Kiliann Sildillia for less than half the asking price demanded by the Bundesliga club last summer.
Plettenberg notes that Gladbach, exactly like Freiburg, rejected an initial lowball bid. The €9m tender constitutes the Eredivisie outfits second offer. PSV domestic competitors Ajax are also still interested in Itakura and are monitoring the situation. Gladbach will certainly take their time weighing the latest development.
