According to Globo.com, a public poll this week named the unawarded penalty on Tapia in São Paulo v Palmeiras as the worst refereeing error of the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro, drawing 45.55% of the vote.

The incident came six minutes into the second half with São Paulo leading 2-0. Allan slipped and felled Tapia in the box, but officials deemed the accidental contact not worthy of a penalty. Referee Ramon Abatti Abel stood by his on-field decision, backed by VAR Ilbert Estevam da Silva.

The National Refereeing Commission accepted there had been an error and stood both officials down for retraining. In the same match, a red card not shown to Andreas Pereira for a studs-up challenge on Marcos Antônio was also listed among the biggest mistakes, finishing fourth in the poll.

Second in the voting was the failure to dismiss Gustavo Gómez for a studs-up challenge on Wanderson during Palmeiras’ 0-0 draw with Cruzeiro. The tackle ruled the Cruzeiro forward out of the rest of the league season. Referee Rafael Rodrigo Klein was called by VAR Daniel Nobre Bins to review the incident, but opted for a yellow card.

Completing the top three was a possible early penalty for Palmeiras when Flamengo’s Jorginho shoved Gustavo Gómez two minutes into a Round 29 showdown between the leaders. Caio Max Augusto Vieira did not recommend a review to Wilton Pereira Sampaio. Flamengo won 3-2.
