Amid speculation over a possible rift with Chile’s staff, Flamengo midfielder Erick Pulgar has addressed his situation.

The player said in a social media post that he has no personal issue with coach Nicolás Córdova, who visited him recently, adding that he respects the manager and his work.

He explained he is not driven by praise or criticism, prefers to answer on the pitch and does not usually react to every rumour. He also urged that attention turn to the youngsters now called up, saying they deserve support, space and trust.

Despite strong club form, Pulgar has been left out of recent Chile squads. Chile did not qualify for the World Cup and played only friendlies during the tournament, which he declined to join. The reason for that decision has not been revealed.

Pulgar’s last Chile appearance was in October 2024, an 84-minute outing against Colombia in World Cup qualifying. He remains an important figure for Flamengo under Leonardo Jardim.

He is expected to start on Thursday 17 against Independiente del Valle at the Maracanã, with a Libertadores semi-final place at stake. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time. Flamengo lead 2-0 from the first leg in Ecuador and can lose by one and still go through.
