Alan Hutton has suggested the futures of Celtic duo Scott Bain and Vasilis Barkas will become clear in Sunday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts.

The former Rangers and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has admitted things do not look good for either goalkeeper after Conor Hazard was promoted to the first-team ahead of them.

The 22-year-old, who only had one first-team appearance prior to this season, stepped into the starting XI against Lille and retained his place on the Hoops’ return to league action versus Kilmarnock.

The promising keeper managed to keep a clean sheet against Killie, but it remains to be seen whether he will remain in the side for Sunday’s cup final against Hearts.

Hutton has urged Lennon to keep faith in the youngster and suggested the Northern Irish manager’s selection would be a telltale sign as to the futures of Bain and Barkas.

Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s not looking great for either of them, if I’m honest. Obviously it kind of shows you Lennon’s thinking in recent weeks – they’ve conceded a lot of goals, there’s been a lot of mistakes, keeper mistakes, everything.

“It’s obviously an area where he’s just not happy and he’s turned to the youngster Hazard to come in and fill that void and he’s done well, he’s done all that’s been asked of him.

“I think you’ll see exactly what he’s thinking come the League Cup final, whether he sticks with Hazard or reverts back to one of the two we spoke about.

“I do see from one point that the other boys got them to the final – well, Barkas didn’t, because he wasn’t there – but you know what I mean, they’re more experienced but I would like to see him stick with Hazard.

“I think he’s part of the reason, as well, why they’ve won the last two games and it would be such a great achievement for him to play in a cup final.”
