Paul Robinson has warned Leeds United that Southampton striker Che Adams hasn't fully proved himself in the Premier League during his career, speaking to MOT Leeds News.

Adams has been linked with a move to Elland Road, with TEAMtalk reporting the Whites' interest in the Scotland international earlier this month.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are also thought to be interested, but Leeds could put themselves in a good position to get a deal over the line if they can secure promotion at the end of the season, potentially at the Saints' expense.

Adams sees his contract at St Mary's expire at the end of the season and with Russell Martin's side having to settle for the play-offs, it's no surprise that he hasn't signed a new deal yet, with the player potentially wanting to play in the Premier League next season regardless of whether it's with his current team or not.

In terms of his performances this season, he has shone at times, and the forward will be keen to replicate his goalscoring record next term.

However, that won't be easy, especially if he plays in the English top tier again.

Paul Robinson on Leeds United's links to Che Adams: "In the Premier League, he hasn’t done it yet"

On a free transfer, Adams could be an excellent addition for Leeds, but Robinson has warned that he may not be hugely prolific if the Whites are promoted and the Scotsman joins.

He told MOT Leeds News: "I think he’s a good player and Leeds have been linked with him for a long time. It seems to be every single window that Leeds are linked to Che Adams.

"He’s one of these players that has proven he can do it in the Championship and he scores goals at that level, but then in the Premier League, he hasn’t done it yet.

"You look at his play, you look at his goalscoring ability in the Championship, the potential is there but he hasn’t done it. In a similar way to [Aleksandar] Mitrovic in the early stages of his career when he was at Newcastle. With Newcastle and Fulham, he struggled to score goals in the Premier League.

"You wonder, ‘Has the player found his level? Is he a top Championship player who would struggle to score in the Premier League?’

"The thing is, when you go up with a promoted team, it’s always going to be more difficult. You’re not going to create as many chances, you’re not going to have that many goalscoring opportunities. To score 10-15 goals in a promoted team, or a team in the bottom six of the Premier League, is always a difficult ask.

"Unless a bigger team is going to take an opportunity on you and spend money taking you into the top half, where are you going to get more chances created for you?

"It’s difficult to score goals in a Premier League team that is newly promoted and doesn’t create that many opportunities, and I think that’s potentially what he’s faced when going up into the Premier League.

"The potential of a natural goalscorer is there, you can see that, but he’s Championship-proven without doing it in the Premier League."

Leeds need to strengthen their forward area during the summer window, even though they have some talented wide and attacking midfield options.

Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter may benefit more from playing in an advanced midfield role, so there's a need for more depth at Elland Road.

However, Patrick Bamford may not start every week at the top level considering he hasn't always shone this season, so they ideally need a starter to come in.

Some would argue that Adams would probably be a better option off the bench rather than a regular starter, and because of that, this deal may not work out for the best.

However, he's available on a free transfer and already has experience of operating at the top level, so this is a transfer that could be low-risk and has high rewards.
