Leeds United have been linked with moves for Liverpool's Calvin Ramsey and Tottenham's Ben Davies in recent days, according to Football Scotland and The Athletic.

This comes as Daniel Farke looks to bolster his squad in a bid for the club to win automatic promotion this season. The club are currently fourth in the league, seven points off Ipswich Town in second.

Right-back Calvin Ramsay has recently returned to Liverpool after a disappointing loan spell at Preston, where he played just twice for the Whites, but he was ruled out by injury for a large chunk of his time at Deepdale.

Ben Davies, on the other hand, is a seasoned Premier League campaigner who has captained his country and starts on a regular basis for Tottenham in the Premier League. It would be a sensational coup if the Whites could convince 30-year-old Davies to drop to the Championship, and it would really be a statement of intent to their promotion rivals.

Carlton Palmer believes Leeds will kick on with a strong January transfer window

Pundit Carlton Palmer believes that if Leeds are able to recruit the likes of Calvin Ramsay and Ben Davies this month, it'll show the likes of Ipswich and Southampton that they mean business.

He told FLW, "Leeds United sit fourth in the Championship table on 51 points, seven points behind Ipswich Town.

“Leicester City are on 65 points, with 19 games to play and, in my opinion, 90 points should see them promoted automatically, so they need 25 points out of a possible 57 points and I don’t think any team in the league are catching Leicester. “On the other hand, Ipswich on 58 points are catchable by either Southampton or Leeds. In a bid to close that gap and gain automatic promotion, Leeds are looking at recruiting Calvin Ramsay from Liverpool and Ben Davies from Spurs. “Daniel Farke stated when he joined the club late on in the summer that he had a lot to work in assessing the group and moving players on, and in the January transfer window he’d make his move. “He said it would be the most important transfer window for him to get the club in a position to challenge, he has done that, and he expected the club to kick on in the second-half of the season.

"If Leeds were to sign Davies and Ramsay, Farke would be putting Ipswich and Southampton on notice that their intention is automatic promotion.”

Leeds' chances of signing Ben Davies and Calvin Ramsay

Given the departures of Luke Ayling and Djed Spence this month, it's clear that Leeds need another right-back. With Jamie Shackleton and 17-year-old Archie Gray the only real options.

On a loan deal until the end of the season, it would make sense for Ramsay to join Leeds. A move to Elland Road would see him more likely to play first-team football than he would at Liverpool and would also mean Leeds have strength in depth at right-back.

However, a move for Ben Davies does seem very ambitious by Leeds, perhaps unlikely to happen at this moment in time. Davies has started ten Premier League games for Spurs this season, and at 30 years old, isn't particularly old either.

It may be a different story in the summer if Leeds were to be promoted, but for now, Davies moving to the Championship seems unlikely.
