Qatar has backed Gianni Infantino after a week of backlash over his World Cup share sale to private investors, publicly restating its support for the FIFA president.
According to L'Équipe, federations strongly opposed the plan after it emerged last week, and on Saturday Infantino announced he was abandoning it.
The Qatar Football Association voiced its position the same day through its president, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani, saying it fully supports Infantino’s efforts to grow and strengthen the game worldwide.
The federation also welcomed his decision to withdraw the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal in the interests of the global football community, while adding that the plan had merit.
In line with the Confederation of African Football and the Czech FA president, Qatar did not appear to close the door on Infantino’s idea as firmly as UEFA.
