The Hoops recently continued a recent fine run against the Addicks boss

In football, there have been several instances where a player or team will constantly get the better of an opposing figure or club, such is the nature of the 'beautiful game'.

Queens Park Rangers have been no exception to those rules throughout history, and they will certainly hope that such trends fall in their favour many times under the newly-appointed Julien Stephan.

The R's have become a side who have rarely troubled the Championship play-off places ever since their relegation back into the EFL 10 years ago after a solitary campaign back in the Premier League, and such aims haven't exactly been forecast by many outsiders despite a flurry of transfer incomings and outgoings at Loftus Road in the now-closed summer transfer window.

However, in accumulating their first three-point haul of the second-tier campaign against London rivals, Charlton Athletic, in the final game of August before the current international break, Rangers were able to continue a record which will please the masses in W12 whilst giving Addicks boss, Nathan Jones, another managerial nightmare.

The Hoops had got off to an unconvincing start to life under the Frenchman in his opening four Championship and EFL Cup encounters despite a plethora of exciting additions to the squad - none more so than Richard Kone, who Charlton fans were more than aware of given his 18-goal haul in League One last season for their promotion rivals, Wycombe Wanderers.

After drawing on home turf on the opening day with Preston North End, the West London side searched for the strongest possible reaction following three successive defeats in all competitions at the hands of Plymouth Argyle, Watford and Coventry City - the latter of which ended in a 3-1 drubbing.

Rangers would eventually get Stephan's era at Loftus Road off and running with a 3-1 success against the side from South London through goals from Paul Smyth, Koki Saito and Kone's second of the campaign, with the final two of those strikes also coming in response to Rob Apter's initial 54th-minute equaliser for the newly-promoted outfit.

However, Jones - who now has hundreds of managerial encounters under his belt with the likes of Luton Town, Stoke City, Southampton and Charlton - will be glad that the two sides from the capital don't face off against each other again until February 7th.

The Welshman has faced off against QPR on nine occasions - the joint-most out of any current second-tier outfits alongside Preston North End and Birmingham City - but has suffered six defeats to the Loftus Road side since his first clash against them, which resulted in a goalless draw during his short time in charge of Stoke.

Nathan Jones won't have Queens Park Rangers hoodoo at the top of his priority list anytime soon

Of course, the experienced boss will not be losing sleep over his record against QPR anytime soon, it is just another example of the many random quirks and hoodoos which football throws up from time to time.

There is still plenty of the campaign to go until their next meeting, and now that the transfer window has slammed shut, Jones will hope to get his side back to form after suffering back-to-back defeats against Rangers and previously, Leicester City.

It will be a concern that his side have only found the back of the net on two occasions thus far against Watford and QPR, with a strong focus being on the defensive side of the game as Charlton look to reconsolidate at Championship level after a five-year absence.

However, when Stephan's side travel across London in February 2026, Jones will take comfort in knowing that his solitary win against the aforementioned opponents came the last time which he managed against them from the home dugout in a 3-1 win for Luton back in October 2022.
