The R's are on the hunt for a new right-back, with their current starter in that position on the brink of an exit

QPR are eyeing up a potential reunion with former defender Darnell Furlong this summer, as they prepare to lose current starting right-back Jimmy Dunne on a free transfer.

There could be some turbulent times ahead for the west London outfit, with head coach Marti Cifuentes' future in question amid reports his representatives have been in talks over a potential move to West Brom.

Coincidentally though, the recruitment team at Loftus Road look to be turning their eyes towards a player at The Hawthorns, and it would be a player very familiar with the surroundings if he were to sign this summer.

QPR interested in re-signing Darnell Furlong amid Jimmy Dunne update

As reported by Darren Witcoop, not only are QPR looking at Middlesbrough defender Anfernee Dijksteel, who is out of contract this summer, Furlong is also on their radar, despite being somewhat of a regular starter for Albion this season.

The 29-year-old played 41 times in the Championship for the Baggies and even captained them on occasion, but he's on the list of targets of the QPR transfer team, in what would be a return to the club if a deal was to materialise.

Furlong left QPR in 2019 after playing 72 times for the Hoops, joining West Brom for an undisclosed fee, where he has remained ever since and has played Premier League football with the Midlands outfit - he signed a new contract in October 2024 until the summer of 2027, so a decent fee would presumably be needed to land his services.

It appears that the R's will need a new right-back this summer as their Player of the Year in the form of Dunne is set to depart, as he heads into the final two months of his contract.

The subject of a rejected bid from Sheffield United in January, Dunne will exit the club for nothing at the end of June, as per Witcoop, having plied his trade almost exclusively at right-back this season under Cifuentes.

Darnell Furlong could be a solid addition at QPR, but wages could be an issue

Furlong has definitely developed as a player after leaving QPR, and he's gained experience in England's top two divisions in that time.

It's hard to argue that he wouldn't be a strong addition to their squad next season, especially as Dunne being set to depart leaves quite a big hole at right-back, but Furlong would surely become one of their top earners automatically.

As per estimates from Capology, Furlong is earning around £25,000 a week at The Hawthorns, and he'll be expecting the same, if not more at another club, especially after signing a new deal not too long ago at Albion.
