FLW's QPR fan pundit has given his reaction to Shaun Wright-Phillips suggesting that Ashley Cole should become the club's next manager.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Despite Marti Cifuentes still officially being in charge of the club, Queens Park Rangers are currently on the hunt for a new manager.
Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave by QPR in April ahead of the final game of the season after his representatives reportedly held talks with West Bromwich Albion over their vacant managerial position.
It was later revealed that Cifuentes was not on the Baggies' shortlist of candidates to replace Tony Mowbray, and Tottenham Hotspur assistant Ryan Mason has since taken over at The Hawthorns, but the saga means that the Spaniard's position at Loftus Road has become untenable, with the confirmation of his departure expected soon.
In what has been a frustrating managerial search, the R's were linked with former Lyon boss Pierre Sage, but he has since been named as the new manager of Lens, while ex-Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has reportedly turned down the job after holding talks with the club.
French coach Julien Stephan and Randers boss Rasmus Bertelsen are also said to be on QPR's radar, but former Hoops winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has claimed that his former Chelsea team-mate Ashley Cole would be an "unbelievable" choice for the club.
Cole has never held a managerial position, but he is currently a national coach with the FA, while he has previously spent time on the backroom staff at Derby County, Chelsea, Everton and Birmingham City, as well as assisting Lee Carsley during his interim spell in charge of the senior England team last year.
When asked for his thoughts on the potential appointment of Cole, FLW's QPR fan pundit Louis Moir warned that there would be supporter protests if the 44-year-old was to take over at Loftus Road, and he slammed Wright-Phillips for even putting his name forward.
"I think Shaun Wright-Phillips is only hinting at the fact that Ashley Cole would do well a Championship managerial role because he's his mate and a former team-mate," Louis told FLW.
"He's probably just trying to get him a job and get his name out there, but to be honest, I think that's absolutely embarrassing, especially for QPR.
"If there was a selection of names that you would associate with QPR, Ashley Cole would not be one of them for obvious reasons.
"I would not think about hiring him even if he was one of the only managers available to be honest, he would be way too big of a risk.
"He just would not fit at QPR.
"He's already disliked by QPR fans, and I would not back him whatsoever.
"If that ever happened - or if anyone associated with Chelsea was to be appointed - there would be uproar.
"It would just be embarrassing.
"He's got zero managerial experience, he has some experience as a coach, but he probably needs to start at a smaller club and work his way up.
"That has got to be one of the most embarrassing suggestions for the manager of QPR that I've ever heard.
"There's no way it would happen, and I think if it was to happen, the response from the fan base would be something that you've never really seen before."
As is clear from Louis' strong words, Cole would not be welcomed by the QPR faithful, so the club should steer clear of appointing the ex-Chelsea defender.
It should be said that speculation about Cole taking over at Loftus Road has come purely from Wright-Phillips' comments, rather than because the club have a genuine interest in him, and it is likely that the former R's winger is just trying to circulate his former team-mate's name as he looks to launch his managerial career.
After holding coaching roles at a host of Premier League and Championship clubs, as well as with the England national team, Cole seems set to be given an opportunity to become a number one at some point in the future, but that should certainly not be with the Hoops.
