Questions Remain On Newcastle United Pair For Liverpool Opener | OneFootball

The availability of Newcastle United stars Lewis Miley and Tino Livramento for the Premier League season opener against Liverpool remains open to question.

The Magpies are set to start their new era under Matthias Jaissle after Newcastle parted ways with Eddie Howe, ending the club’s five-year relationship with the English manager.

Newcastle have made multiple changes to their squad as they are looking to rebuild following a disappointing campaign last term.

The Magpies have seen several high-profile departures, including Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, and have reinvested the proceeds in young players including Bazoumana Toure, Aladji Bamba, Lukas Hornicek, Sean Steur and Ewen Jaouen.

While the St James’ Park outfit remain active in the transfer market, they will also be concerned about their players’ fitness as the new Premier League season draws closer.

Miley suffered a broken leg during training back in May, which ruled him out for the rest of the season, while Livramento picked up a severe calf injury during the early stages of his World Cup campaign in June.

Now, according to journalist Craig Hope, there is ‘hope’ that Miley could be ready for the season opener against Liverpool, but Livramento is unlikely to attain match fitness for the game as he continues his rehabilitation in the US.

It could be a blow for Newcastle, who will be relying on their remaining experienced players to lead the team following the departure of several key figures.

With veteran defender Kieran Trippier also leaving Newcastle for Wolves, Livramento is the club’s only established right-back at present.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will move for reinforcements if the duo are unable to regain full match fitness.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have suffered a blow in the pursuit of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has ruled out a move to St James’ Park.
