FLW's Baggies fan pundit believes that his club need not to be worried about Leeds' interest in Corberan after his release clause was revealed

West Brom supporters have been urged not to worry about Carlos Corberan's future as Baggies boss after new details around his contract were revealed amid longstanding interest from Leeds United.

Corberan has been a hit at the Hawthorns since his October 2022 appointment, and his side look set to challenge at the top of the Championship table this season after he led the Baggies to fifth place last term.

Albion currently sit top of the second-tier after a stellar start to the new campaign, with four wins and one draw in their opening five games seeing them set the pace in the early stages.

They will want to keep the 41-year-old in charge for as long as possible, but a fresh update on his situation at the club has emerged, after Football Insider revealed that he has a £2m release clause in his current Baggies contract, with Leeds, where he was under-21 boss and assistant manager for three years from 2017 to 2020, keeping tabs on his availability amid uncertainty around Daniel Farke's future.

The Spaniard is understandably set to be of interest to numerous different clubs that may look to change their manager in the coming months, but it does seem unlikely that he would depart the Hawthorns to join another Championship side.

FLW's Baggies fan pundit, Callum Burgess, is surprised that the club have managed to keep hold of their boss for so long with the clause in his deal, but believes that he will not leave for Leeds and is more likely to move up to the top-flight if he does depart soon.

"We’ve been quite fortunate that no one has activated the £2m release clause in Carlos Corberan’s contract," he told FLW.

"It’s quite apparent that he can go on to do really good things, he can become a really elite coach and manage a top team one day in his career.

"Whether that is in the Premier League with us, if he wants to stay and keep building the project that he has got going on with Shilen Patel at the moment, who knows.

"I feel like there will come a day where he does leave West Brom to go to a top Premier League club.

"I don’t think interest from Leeds United or any other Championship side should make our fans fearful of him leaving anytime soon.

"A (team like) Everton, or a decent Premier League club (could hire him) if their job becomes free.

"There is no doubt that he will be on the top of the list of a lot of Premier League teams, and if they lose their managers he could be one of the first names they look for and think that he is someone that can step up and make the transition into the top-flight, and do a really good job."

West Brom must keep hold of Corberan by any means necessary

The Baggies' development and improvement since Corberan's appointment has been very clear to see, and so they must make sure he stays in charge until at least the end of the season, with promotion very possible.

West Brom were at a real loose end when they took a gamble on the Spaniard back in October 2022, after Steve Bruce had been sacked following just one win from the opening 13 league games with the club in the relegation places.

He had an instant impact with nine wins in his first 11 games as boss, and eventually led his new side to ninth that season as they finished just three points off the play-offs.

Last season saw his side improve even further as they came fifth to secure a play-off semi-final against Southampton, but were beaten 3-1 in the second-leg after a 0-0 draw at the Hawthorns.

The 41-year-old has been a clear success in the West Midlands up to now, and his side's ascent has only continued so far this season with an electric start that has seen them concede just twice in five league games and convincingly beat the likes of QPR, Stoke City and Portsmouth.

It is absolutely imperative that they hold on to him for the foreseeable future, and a new contract must be put in front of him as soon as possible to make sure that the alleged release clause is unable to be triggered.
