There are quite a few changes to the starting XI, as Alphadjo Cisse and Ruben Loftus-Cheek start together in support of striker Goncalo Ramos.

That means Rabiot drops back into midfield with Luka Modric, having until now been used in the more advanced trequartista role by coach Ruben Amorim, as Yunus Musah is sent to the bench.

“We talked about my position when I arrived, both as a trequartista and in midfield, so I alternate between the two roles in training,” Rabiot told DAZN Italia.

“It also depends on how he wants to see me playing in the midfield and what the team needs more. Personally, I feel good both in midfield and in a slightly more advanced position, I always try to give my best.”

Arriving late to pre-season training due to France’s long run at the World Cup, Rabiot only got his first start in the 1-1 draw away to Juventus.

“I didn’t do quite as well in Turin also due to my fitness levels, as obviously I need to get back to 100 per cent. I try to listen to the coach and do what he asks of me.

“I will be in midfield with Modric today, a position I know better and I certainly like. However, the individual aspect isn’t important, we must try to work together as a team and win,” concluded Rabiot.
