Racism in Spain: Lamine Yamal targeted like never before

A new report from Oberaxe, relayed by El País, has revealed the staggering scale of racist attacks against La Liga players. Lamine Yamal tops the list of victims by a wide margin.

Among all La Liga players, Lamine Yamal stands out in a deeply troubling way: the 18-year-old FC Barcelona forward was the target of more than half of all hate messages on social media last season.

Vinícius Júnior of Real Madrid has not been spared either, receiving nearly 30% of the attacks. Overall, two clubs account for the majority of the abuse: Real Madrid (34%) and Barcelona (32%). These figures highlight that racism remains a major issue in Spanish football and that strong action is still urgently needed to combat it.
